Canon 60D to buy what lens to match it

I'm just about to replace my camera, due to a loss, so i'm looking to buy the Canon 60D, but not sure on the best combination of lens. :shrug:
I'm also after a lens for the wife's Canon 500D, she has the 18-55mm kits lens, and wants a bit more reach, and walk about lens.
Budget will be around £1400, for all 3, I've looked at the 15-85 for me, to go with the body, and a siggy, 18-125, or 18-200mm OS for the wife.
i'm looking for any other recommendations, i did have the siggy, 17-70 non OS, that fell foul with the old 600D, is the 17-70 OS version on a par with the 15-85.

My other lenses are the canon 70-200f4L, 50mm f1.8, and 100mm macro, so there is a fair selection already. I've been looking and keep changing, from one to something else, it then changes the budget for the other lens.

we mostly shoot landscapes, and she likes flowers our dogs and close ups, but not in to macro, (maybe let here have a go with the 100mm tolkina macro) just yet.
 
Canon 10-22mm would be a nice addition for landscapes along with the 15-85mm and maybe an all in one zoom for the missus, saw an ad for a newish Tamron 18-270 VC, might be worth a look

My daughter bought a Sigma 17-70 OS and it had the worst front focus problem I have ever seen, went straight back and ended up with the Tamron 17-50 VC which is excellent
 
I use the Canon 18-135 IS as my general 'travel lens' and its very nice. Very good IS and sharp with lovely colour reproduction. My only gripes are slight barrel distortion at 18mm (as with any 'superoom') and really annoying barrel creep when its pointed down!

As above, I can also recommend the Canon 10-22, a truely awesome lens, one of the best lenses Canon has ever made IMVHO.
 
Thanks guys but i think that will stretch the budget all 3 includes the body, and 2 lenses, i would love a 10-22 WA lens but its out of reach just now, with the pennys i've got to spend, other option would be a cheaper body, ie back to the 600d, and then better glass, but i think i would regret that.
 
We love our 15-85. I'd definitely go with that as the main lens. No idea what to suggest for the other lens (not sure how much you've priced the 60D/15-85 for) though - I'd normally suggest the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 non-VC but that doesn't have the extra reach she'd be after...
 
As I say the 18-135 is an ideal travel lens, but the 15-85 is a stunning lens in its own right. Out of the two I'd chose the 60d with the 15-85 which would be a perfect combo!
 
Was thinking of the 18-135 to give to the wife and get the 15-85 for the 60d, just not sure about the 18-135 it works out cheaper to get it as a kit and buy the 15-85 separately, just got with one of the siggys for her. 1467 for the lot from amazon so its not to much out of budget

If it helps I'm looking to add the 15-85 as well and sell my 17-40L as I've decided to stay with crop cameras.

I just had a play on the lens comparison tool on the-digital-picture and by their samples the 15-85 is an impressive lens.

I used to have the 17-50 non-VC Tamron, sharpness was fantastic but build quality and focussing speed + noise left me in want.

Canon 17-40L is great on FF, but lacks zoom range on a crop (neither wide enough or zooms enough) and frankly there are better choices for a crop sensor.


Thats just my opinion!
 
i think it will be the 15-85mm for me and the 18-135mm for the wife, having the extra 2mm at the wide end will swing it for me, like you say its a great lens, but i've not had the chance to pick one up, as nobody round here holds them. Just need to decide 100% about the 18-135mm is it good enough or better that the 2 siggys above?
 
Its better than the Siggys you include IMO. I was going to buy the Sigma 18-125 OS but the Canon 18-135 had far better contrast and colour.
