Canon 6d and Jessops AFD 360

I have used a Jessops AFD 360 flashgun for years as a slave and master on my 50d with no issues. Today I used it as a master flash on my 6d, and when seated on the 6d it was randomly firing off for no reason! Put it back on the 50d and it was fine.

I know the 6d is far more advanced on the technical time line and as such other, older 3rd party gear might not work properly, but I'm at a loss as to how a basic flash gun might act like that?

Has anyone else had issues, or used the AFD 360 on a 6d with no issues at all? My Canon Speedlight is on loan to a friend presently so I cant test the 6d with another gun.

Canon changed the flash system slightly about the time of the 5D mkii I had to have my sigma firmware flashed to make it fully compatible so it might be that.

Yeah I did think about that, but having said that, the 50d was released in Aug '08 and the 5dmk2 only a month later?

I don't know the full ins and outs only that my sigma worked perfectly on my 30D but while it still fired on my 5D mkii it wasn't fully compatible until sigma flashed the firmware. All these third party pieces of kit are reverse engineered and canon do like to mess things up occasionally!

I think you're right, but I know I cant flash the firmware on the Jessops gun so I guess it'll be used only on the 50d or as a slave from now on. Oh well, a good excuse to buy another Speedlight in the new year for the 6d

Do Jessops still sell the flash and list it as compatible? If so they might well be able to fix the software on it. Not sure where they would stand on this post going bust etc.

For anyone with a sigma flash reading this they were excellent and no charge was made as long as the original receipt was supplied which fortunately was included when I purchased mine second hand.
