canon 6d or 7dii ?

right guys and girls im toying with buying a 6d or 7d2 i shoot the odd 5k or 10k races motor sport events bike events and a lot of car show stuff ,but would like to get into portrait and landscape, i have a 70d but id like to give ff a go ,what like is the 6d for moving subjects like say people running in a race and how many shots would i get full raw from a battery ,and how much better is a 6d over a 7d2 in low light
 
Looking at your needs I think the 7d2 would be a good option, or another option maybe to invest in two camera bodies ie a 5dmk1 and a 7dmk1 both great cameras then you have the best of both? (And less cost potentially) but putting the 17-55mm 2.8 would cover a lot of what you need already on the 70d in terms of portraits and landscapes.

But in terms of low light not using a 7d2 I would say FF is going to win there, even the old 5dmk1 is going to do well against a crop sensor. I used mine up to its ISO 1600 without a lot of worry hth
 
i was thinking 6d for low light and portrait and landscape stuff i use the 50d with the 70d for 5k 10k races and motorsport stuff but would like to know if the 6d would be ok for moving subjects like people running i dont expect the af to keep with fast motorsport but would use it a a second camera with the 70d
 
Not sure that the 6D AF is up to motorsport. Maybe on the central point ? I sold mine mainly because it could not keep up with birds/wildlife moving around. That stated, I am not at all a 7D or 7D2 fan so would go for 5D3 in your shoes. Just my £0.02.
 
cheers gary for the reply sadly the 5d3 is well out my price range i norm use center point focus on the cameras i have i think i will opt for the 6d i think. just put a order in for the 6d so will see how i go with it

I have both and I am a fan of the 7D2. The 6D scores better the 5D3 in most comparison sites especially Snapsort.
I use the 7D2 for mostly wildlife and particularly taking images of birds. At 10fps its fast and works well in any other photo shoots. The 6D is lighter than both the 7D2 and 5D3 and is an excellent camera for landscape and Street photography and is very good in low light.

All in all the 5D3, 6D and 7D2 are all the excellent cameras and should be at £2200, £1400 and £1100 respectfully give or take a few quid. However, you asked advice between the 7D2 and 6D. You said you wanted ff so go for the 6D, however the 7D2 will handle motorsports, wildlife much better, whereas the 6D I find is better Landscape and Street. Whichever you choose you will have a good camera. Aren't they bringing a 6D2 out?

Hi hoochy1, 6D is a fantastic body in lots of ways and I am sure it will do a great job for you. No point in suggesting alternatives now I suppose but a used 1D3 might have been a great value alternative ? Anyway, enjoy the 6D you cannot go too far wrong with one.
 
6D is a great camera IMO but if you want FF then why you even thinking about the 7D MKII? Your 70D apparently has the same AF system as the original 7D which was highly rated so why not get the 6D and use it for all the stuff you don't need a shutter over 1/4000s for and use the 70D for everything you need over 1/4000s? Don't make the mistake of buying the same camera twice (7D MKII and 70D) as you're just paying for more AF points if you get the 7D MKII.
 
cheers for the feedback i am happy with the 70d the the 5d3 is way out my price range just now,plus reading about a good few people having hit and miss 7dii cameras i thought id opt for the 6d ff over the crop any ways thanks for the replys and i will update the thread when i get the 6d and have a play with it
 
You've probably got this in hand already, but just though I'd state the obvious... Don't forget you'll need some full frame lenses to go with your 6D, 24-105mm perhaps to get you started.
 
cheers glen yea i have the 24-105 two 70-200s f4 and f2.8 and a 50-500 sigma i have a 50mm 1.8 ii i think that fits the 6d to will need to have a look to make sure but

I had a lot of lenses before I bought the 6d (only 2 of which were EFS lenses) - I've bought 2 since* (necessities) and I'll probably need at least another couple :D

And I'm not a gear freak. :thinking:

17-35 FF UWA
35mm 1.4 (for gorgeousness)

I also need a 135mm f2 (as a direct replacement of my 85 on crop)
And a better 50mm (the nifty was OK for occasional use, but I need something better built with nicer bokeh)

phil i take it you on about some thing like a 50 mm art ,if so i hear thats one hell of a lens .yea i will prob go for a uwa of some sort unsure what yet i will see what the 24mm end of the 24-105 looks like first on the ff as i do like my 10-20mm on my 70d
 
The 50mm does fit the Full Frame as it's an EF lens. Just don't put any lenses on it that are EF-S or you'll break the mirror on the back of the lens! EF lenses have red dots on them to match it to the red dot on the camera (Look at the 70D it will have the white square and a red dot). If it's got a red dot on it then it will fit FF as it's an EF lens.
 
I bought into full frame and upgraded from a 40D to a 6D. It's a fantastic camera and I have shot red kite in flight with it, but the focus system is not designed for fast moving targets so keep rate wasn't great. The 5fps is also not great.

I've just bought a 7Dmkii to complement the 6D so I have the best of both worlds. I was looking at upgrading to a 5Dmkiii but while that would have given me a better focus system, I still would have only had 6fps. The added reach of the crop sensor was also appealing. Something I missed after moving to FF.
 
Same as Elliott above, I own the 6d and 7dmk2. Both are great cameras and I use both quite a lot. 7d has a Sigma 150-600 almost permanently on it for sport and BIF. I use the 6d for everything else I do.
