Yes
Just had a look at WEX and saw that the 70-200/2.8 II has dropped to £1698.

A couple of months ago it was still over £2k.

I'm just surprised that it has dropped that quickly.

Hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy it'll be nearer to £1500.

Having said that I reckon it's going to stabilise between £1500 and £1600.

What do you guys reckon on the price?

They were selling at £1500 at the Focus show in March... and I don't suppose anyone was losing money then ;) But demand is still high, and Canon have increased production.

I think £1500 is quite possible though. Have you tried Kerso? The $ exchange rate has got a bit better lately and he might be close to that already. Worth an email.

I was in a similar discussion on another thread about the Canon 7D, I think it's a combination of:
- product has moved away from it's "brand new, early adopter stage"
- a stronger pound
- greater competition as businesses struggle to attract new customers
- also a small possibility as you get towards the year end that companies like Canon need to hit their year end targets and high value items get sold into the trade and slightly more attractive prices?

Have you tried Kerso?

Ian was £1799 the last time I got a list a few months ago.

It's going to be a while before I can afford it, but I'll get it from Ian when I'm ready as he should always be cheaper than WEX etc.

Yes, the exchange rate has strengthened about 10% since May, plus other reductions. Guessing close to £1600 from Kerso now?

So if I sell my 70-200/4 for £400 I'm still £1200 short.

Give it 6 months and I'll be good to go I reckon.

Yeah I started a thread on this a week or so ago. I'm saving for one and reckon by xmas the prices will be hitting around £1500-£1600.

Simply it will get down to the level the Mk1 used to retail at before the Mk2 was announced. They had to keep the Mk2 price high to get rid of Mk1 stock and build up stock of the Mk2.

I will wait for the price to stabilise and then get a price off Kerso. With the exchange rate they are currently £1400 in the states so I don't think £1500-£1600 is too far off.

The more it comes down the better I've budgeted my saving at £2k so any extra left can buy me another speedlite :D

The 70-200 F4L IS has also dropped in price - it was around £950-970, but now jacobs and warehouseexpress are both listing it at £799 new.

Tell me about it, a week after I bought it (though I did only pay £834)

I'm properly torn what to get, love the weight and IQ of f4 IS. But due to shooting lots of weddings really should get 2.8 though i know good togs who use f4. I'd prob only use it at f4 tbh unless I was able to afford the MKII. Hmmm might have to start saving hard if the price keeps dropping :- P

For overall portability and handling I think the F4 is first class, the 2.8 I have used and just found too heavy and bulky

Not much of a loss, but i guess it still is 34 quid you could have saved for something else :p

It wasn't so much the £35 it was more that I spent weeks shopping around for the best price and then a week later several places had it cheaper!

I wonder when the newly announced 70-300L is going to drop from its currently eye-wateringly high launch price of around £1600? Armed with one of those, I could run a serious reign of terror amongst the North West of England's cute, little furry animals.

Couldn't you do that with a stick?

You could get a 300mm F4 IS for half that price - better tool for your planned terror... just sayin :)
