Canon 70-200 advice

Hi folks

Still need get a 70-200 lens. Was looking at canon 2.8 range but price is hard to funds. But what is the f4 IS lens like since can get around £530 2nd hands.

I looked at sigma while at photography show I tho it was slow at focusing in Ai servo
 
Fast to focus. Very sharp. Very effective IS. Small and light compared to f/2.8 lenses. What else do you want to know?
 
I think the only advantage for the 2.8 is low light??

Have u any samples picture taken? Pls

Check out the Red Kites and some of the Sailing gallery. I have also used it for school concerts and show photography where the IS comes in handy.
It is a great lens.

I have the 70-200mm F2.8IS MK1 and use it all the time I really liked the F4 Versions and bought one kept it about two yrs then sold it.. I then regretted selling it and bought another F4 version but my friend let me use his F2.8IS and the extra light gathering made me buy the F2.8 version and to be honest I would not buy the F4 ever again compared to the Faster F2'8

the Sigma is not even in the same ball park as any of the Canons at this range in my opinion... I guess it is all about how much you want to spend
 
It's my sharpest lens.
On a full frame sensor, the reach disappoints at times but the image quality is so good you can crop into a small part of the frame and still get reasonable results.
 
As has been said all the Canon 70-200s are great lenses. Another advantage of the 2.8 is it will autofocus with a 2x convertor unless your using a 5D3 or 1D body in which case the F4 version will autofocus as well. Obviously the image quality takes a hit on all of them with a convertor but still very usable.
 
I have the f4is I got it after I tried the 2.8 which I found heavy. This lens goes around the world with me and is only one stop different. It focuses very quickly and its very sharp.
 
Been offered a 70-200 F2.8 IS MKI for £950 just is that good?? Or a F4 IS for £550

FWIW my Sigma 70-200 (non OS HSM II) AF is super fast! The current OS model is supposed to be even better so I can't see why you would discount the Sigma just because of that?

I disagree with your last paragraph. I compared the Canon mk1 to the Sigma HSM2 f/2.8's and there was nothing in it IQ wise. I could have bought the Canon but couldn't justify the extra £600 on something that was for all intensive purposes identical.

However, that's off topic.

As for the Canon f/4 IS, it's probably the best f/4 zoom out there!

No, that's not good at all!

For less than £950 you could get a BRAND NEW Sigma 70-200 OS f/2.8 or the new to market Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 VC. Personally, people are raving about the new VC Tamron, I'd take that over the Canon mk1 any day.

Can't comment on why you experienced that, even in very low light the Sigma is excellent to track and lock.

But as above, look at the new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 VC.

Will have go into harrisons cameras with a memory card and take some snaps with each lens
 
i have recently bought a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 os and its great focusing is spot on try one out you wont be dissapointed.
 
The F4 non IS ........ is that as sharp as the IS version?

Can't say only owning the IS model, but one difference is the lack of weather sealing in the non IS version.
 
Ah weather sealing hmmmm don't think Sigma or tamron do this?

For me the 2.8 IS all the way fast focus and also can put a X2 on it and you then have up to 400mm with IS and auto focus.
It my fav lens you can do every thing from portraits to sport and wildlife. it my never leave at home lens...

Just remember to fine tune your micro focusing if you want to use it wide open...( if you have it that is)

As you can with the Sigma and Tamron. Or are you comparing it to the Canon f/4?
 
You can with canon f4 if u have a 5d mkiii ???
