Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS with 2x converter? Or Sigma 120-400 F4.5-5.6

Right.......I am going to sell off my Sigma 70-200 F2.8 for the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS......my question is, I already have a Sigma 120-400 F4.5-5.6......if I sold that as well, and got 2x converter, would I be losing anything?

Would image quality, autofocus, etc be effected considerably....or more to point, would any of it be any worse then using the Sigma 120-400?

Anyone using a Canon 70-200 F2.8 with a converter?

I used a 70-200 F2.8 IS with a 2x convertor.
It was (IMO) terrible. The AF was much slower and also hunted more in anything other than excellent light. The image quality was unacceptable to me, I could get better results with a 1.4x and cropping than I could with a 2x.

I genuinely believe you would loose quality if you went from the sigma 120-400 to a 70-200 +2x

I agree, I have a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 and a 120-400mm.
The 2x converter didn't perform well with the 70-200mm but the 1.4x is fine and gives similar results to the 120-400mm.

I sold my Siggy 120-400 and bought the x2 extender for my 70-200 2.8 L.
Big mistake !!
I now don't use the extender unless I've got perfect light and am able to shoot at f8. That means I hardly ever use it and will probably let it go !

Thanks all.......think i will stick with the 120-400 then....just trying to save some space.......cant carry it all as the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS is that much bigger then the *little* Sigma 70-200.....ah well.......
