Just wanted to know what this switch is for

If you are more than 3m away use that one as it will focus quicker.
Ok, amusing (and beneficial for me) story about this.
A while back someone put a 70-200mm f4 IS on Ebay for £450 BIN or best offer. The seller had sold the lens previously but it had been returned by the buyer as not working and so was refunded. Unfortunately the seller had sold all his Canon gear and so couldn't test the lend and so put it on Ebay as faulty. The fault was that it would not focus when pointing down but was fine on objects further away.
Anyway .. taking a total gamble I offered £350 and it was accepted, lens arrived in perfect condition but it wouldn't focus on anything close.
Until I flicked over the focus limiter switch :bonk:
I find it doesn't make a whole lot of difference in honesty... Can't say there is any noticeable difference in speed, or accuracy. Just always quick and efficient.
