Canon 70-300 F4L or 2.8 on crop!?

The 70-300L is actually f4-5.6 and it works perfectly on a crop sensor. No reason why it wouldn't. I use it with a 7D.
 
My 70-300L rarely comes off my 7D. It's wonderful.
 
It is a superb lens. I got one for the days when I didn't want to carry the 300mm F2.8 with me.
 
I think they more likely mean the 70-200 f/4L and f/2.8L lenses given the apertures they gave, rather than the 70-300L which is nowhere near as popular.

All the Canon 70-200L lenses are fantastic whatever camera you put them on, basically. Can't really go wrong with one.

Both lenses are good and which ever one you buy you wont be dissapointed. I have a 70-200 f4 non is and absolutely love it, what lens your upgrading from youll notice a massive improvement regarding autofocus, colours, well everything really.
 
The non-IS f/4 70-200mm is a fantastic lens; relatively cheap, tough, very light, high quality optics.... I'd love Nikon to produce one :)

I think the 70-200 f/4L is still the cheapest L lens Canon make so it's naturally many peoples' entry point.

Of course by 'entry point', I mean entry point into a life of destitution and endless lusting after 'just one more lens'!

I'm often confused why the lens non "is" is around 600$ and it's L glass! It blows my mind. But you get a 28-105mm F4L for double!

It's £490 over here, which I think works out about $750 (I take it you're talking US dollars?). It's probably cheap because it's a pretty simple optic and being f/4, isn't nesseccarily a feat of human engineering :)
