We recently had a Canon 70D which seemed to have completely died. It just wouldn't turn on. I sent it off to Elstree for repair, and there's no charge. It turns out that there is a known issue with some 70Ds - specifically those with serial numbers beginning 00 to 22.

This service notice from Canon UK describes the issue. If your 70D is affected, they will inspect or repair it free of charge.

Did you find out this information via a phone call or via the Canon website?
If it was via a phone call I'm impressed the person knew about it.
I was impressed when Vauxall contacted me to inform me about a potential handbrake fault and asked me take my car to the local dealer to have it fixed and it only took 10 minutes.
With all the lack of customer service we read about it's encouraging when a company has a clue.

I found it by accident when I sent the camera off for repair and they didn't charge me. Obviously they have some procedure within the repair centre whereby dead 70Ds are flagged.
