Canon 70D - Worth it just for the high ISO?

I have the Canon 7D which I mainly use for birds with my Sigma 150-500. I realise decent high ISO is not one it's strong points!

Would it be worth exchanging the 7D for the 70D purely for the ISO gain? I have no interest in its better video, moveable touch screen etc!

From everything I have read the high ISO noise levels of the 70D are only marginally better than the 7D. When I had a 7D I found it was good up to ISO 800 and even ISO 1600 at a push (and a little NR) providing the exposures were good. What amplifies noise is:
a) underexposing and then pushing in processing
b) cropping heavily.

The better ISO capabilities were the prime reason I exchanged my 7D for a 70D and couldn't be happier. Above ISO1600 on my second 7D was basically unuseable, whether I ETTR or used EX Comp or whatever, the first I had was better but not by much. Maybe it was just mine cause I've seen some great shots with high ISO on the 7D thread. I can get good quality very useable shots with my 70D up to ISO6400 without having to use any noise removing software. As the sigma needs to be at least f7.1, the thought of using iso 1600 or even higher would be a great advantage.
 
If you want great high ISO, I'd look to swap it for a 6d. Its probably Canon's best sensor. You won't lose 'reach' as the 6d images crop so well and retain so much detail IMO you'll still be better off, all you lose really is in the AF dept, but using the centre point I've never had issues with the 6d's AF. The 6d also retains a LOT more shadow detail.
 
Dougan, if you don't need it immediately, I'd hang on for a few months in the hope of the 7D mk2 coming out, it's been rumoured for a while and IMHO Canon will have to update this body soon, it's probably their longest in the tooth one now by some way.

Surely it will have a much improved sensor, as there have been so many adverse comments about the mk1.
