Hi all

I have just been out to the motorhome to grab some kit in another bag I had in there only to find that with all the rain we've had the van has let water in and my camera bag is wet :bang:

I had a canon 75-300mm lens in the bag, that is also wet.

Whats the best way to let the lens dry out?

How long do I leave it before trying it on the body to see if it works?

Or is it a no-hoper??

Tried and tested way is to pop it in a large air tight container and cover it with rice (uncooked normal cheapest rice :-)) then put on a warm area and the rice will draw the moisture out. I'd be tempted to leave it for a few days to make sure.

You can use silica or there are other options available to purchase.

Hope it does the trick for you ...

Yes, I'd put some in the bottom to lie it on and then cover it up, seal it and leave it alone for a few days in a warm place.


Hope it works and dries it out.
 
I'd keep the lens cool until you're ready, Sarah. If it warms up wihtout the desiccant (rice) then any mositure may penetrate further in.

As Bob says really, of you can't pick any rice up tonight.

Yeah, I know I would be put off buying if it were me!

Think I'll just have to price it accordingly. Was thinking that £50 would be reasonable as I'm going to sell it with a filter set and after market hood. The cheapest new one I found from a quick search was £150.

Let's hope the rice does the job!
