Hey guys,

As some of you may be aware I am going to be upgrading from my camera pretty soon I hope. I am still considering both the 7D and the 5D MarkII. I have held both cameras, but then I realised I haven't held either of them with their relative grips attached (which I would be buying and using no matter which i end up getting).
That brings me to my question, since Jessops/Wilkinsons and the other camera shops in my area won't unbox/order in grips just for people to try them with a view to "possibly" buying them I wondered if any kind TP members in the general area of Cumbria or Carlisle would be willing to let me come and hold/feel how these cameras are with the grip on.

Thanks in advance,
Tom N.

Unfortunately I'm not local to you but I can recommend getting a grip for either of these cameras - especially if you are using longer lenses. The balance of the camera will feel so much better, not to mention the additional battery life to be gained

Actually, you're not a million miles away from my "Original HQ" =) as my mum and dad live in Bolton and Walkden respectively. I understand the advantages of a grip as it instanly made my 400D feel "right". Just wanting to try and test both of them out to see if a leader emerges out of the 2 that way.

Thanks,
Tom N.

Surely it depends what you shoot? 7D and the 5d2 are built for completely different scenarios

I understand the cameras both excel and are designed for completely different subjects but, that is the same as what I do. What I should really have said is that I haven't yet decided which to get *first*. I will get the other, or its bigger/better brother when I can afford to but for now it doesn't technically matter which one I get as both will be able to do what I want them to do for now.

Hope that clears things up.

Ah I See. Well I am a millions miles away from you, but have the 7D and grip. Like Stuart says, the grip helps out overall with balance, battery life etc etc. I know you wanna feel first, but another online vote for the grip.

As for which one to get first, which scenarios do you think you will be in the most?? If its mainly FF, then the 5D2 it is, if its mainly cropped stuff, 7D. Then you can get the other at that later date. Hope that made sense :)

If I could answer that question then I wouldn't of posted here. :) There are situations where I would appreciate a better low-light sensitivity and wider FoV using my lenses but other times I would need better FPS, AF and the crop factor is nice at times too. In a perfect world I would smash (not literally) both these cameras together and get the ultimate camera (for my needs). But alas that doesn't yet exist. So here I am trying to come to the best compromise for now.

Thanks,
Tom N.

Nobody in the Carlisle or Bolton area? I now say Bolton because like I said the parentals live there and I could be in the area at points in the future if this would give me the possibility of trying out said cameras + grips.

Thanks again,
Tom N.
