Hi all.
Some advice on buying from Jessops please.

I have just got Jessops to price a 7D body for 1200 and the BG-E7 grip for 99. So making 1299 in total. Better than most online prices. I know Kerso is proberly cheaper but I can walk out the store with this tomorrow with an extended warranty covering me for accidental damage.

I have not had any dealing with Jessops in the past. How good are they for returns and after sales care ect.

Any advice welcome.

Marty

They are shocking. They have been for me 3 times and I just won't use them again. My sister also bought a D80 off them back in the day and they refused to replace it as the shutter wouldn't always fire only 1 week after buying it.

They may be people that have had good experiences, but personally, I've given them chance after chance and the last straw was when they couldn't supply me with a 7D and took 2 months to refund my money

I've had a quick look and Warehouse Express do it for £24 more, and Park Cameras for £25 more.

Regardless of which seller you chose at the end, if you decides to use jessop or jacobs, remember to check out discount codes or cashback websites.
Check out camerapricebuster for a start!

I bought mine from HDEWcameras last month, £1100ish and 3 years warrenty, next day delivery, 0203 411 7067, talk to the man, very pleased,

Jessops tend to be hit or miss depending on the local store, in Basingstoke they're superb others have not been so good...

There's been a few threads on them now but can't remember anything being said about Romford....

It's worth bearing in mind that if there was a problem with your camera and Jessops were being awkward you can always send it straight to Canon @ Elstree and they'll sort it pronto - just send in a copy of the receipt.

Obviously it would be easier if Jessops did a straight swap (and they should) but it is a comforting backup plan.

I went into Jessops in Glasgow to buy a CF card for my 1Ds, for starters the guy didn't have a clue whether it took CF type 1 or 2 and by selling me the grossly overpriced 4GB sandisk CF card at 29.99 he was guessing and hoping it would work. Hardly a horror story but it didn't bode well with me.

Like all retailers, they have a returns policy. Same as Jacobs do and WEX.

They are no worse than any others, so buy with confidence. At least you can go into any of over 200 stores if you have a problem.

Online returns can be the worst. You often need e-mails, telephone calls, and a the ability to talk to just a voice at the other end of the line.

Shops are always the safest options.

If something does go wrong, it isn't the shops fault, it is the manufacturers fault, so stop blaming the shops.

Sorry, I don't agree with this. I've sent things back to WEX and Park Cameras which I bought online with less hassle. I realise that it's not the shop's fault if something goes wrong, but the shop you bought it from should help you in the first instance, unless it's over a period of time

One email to the store stating the problem, one email back with an RMA number. No telephone calls at all.

Do you work in Jessops ?

EDIT:

OMG i just did some research... you do work for jessops !!!!!!

Paul.

When you buy from a shop, regardless of what it is, if something goes wrong with it they have to honour the returns policy, or whatever it's called these days. The fact that they sometimes don't it's what bothers people.

I've bought probably about £6k's worth of kit through jessops now. Never had a problem with them at all. Love being able to 'collect at store'.

Same as Foggy, never had a problem with them. In fact they went above and beyond the call to get me the kit I bought from them earlier than they normally would. And yes I work for them. And yes, this was all before I worked for them. Now that I work for them I have seen the other side of the fence. Suffice to say there are a lot of narrow minded and ignorant people out there.

To answer the OP's question, their returns policy is fine, and perfectly fair. One should be fully aware of it before trying to return/refund/exchange something THINKING they know what they are talking about.

keep it clean please folks. this is a photography forum, if you dont like Jessops, then dont shop there, dont insult fellow forum members.

I agree with most of the comments and like most stores comes down to the person running it and their knowledge (You ever tried buying a TV from Currys.....). Have never had any problems with my local Jessops apart from being overpriced, but when you just can't wait, you don't mind paying a little bit extra.

Only had one run in with Jessops (not my most local one) when I did a collect in store as they were the only people showing stock, however when I got there they could not find it and would not let me cancel until the end of the day, needless to say we had words and they finally backed down when I started on about petrol costs and parking....

Thanks for the advice guys. Mixed comments, seems to be luck of the draw with Jessops.

I was more interested with the extended warranty, that was the main reason for buying from them. Looks like Jessops warranties are backed by Domestic and general.

Does any one have any experience with D and G warranties?

I bought a camera from Jessops, which died three days later. They replaced it with absolutely no hassle. Didn't even want me to demonstrate the fault to them. They had one in stock in another store and could have had it shipped to the local store for me, but, being an impatient sort, I chose to go to the other store. I thought the service was excellent.

Had a TV replaced by them once (Free extra years warranty) with no problem. Have you been to their web site and done yourself a quote for the camera? normally cheaper than using the shop themselves.
