Any reason why you couldnt use a 7d.. with lights and background and stuff... as a portrait camera...any drawbacks?

To me..any camera will do the job.. but.

PS I havent a clue about portrait studio photogrpahy.. not for me :)

I would say portraiture is more about the lenses used, and lighting, than the camera body. Unless you're doing naturally lit portraits in dim lighting, then ISO comes into play.

I would say the 7D is more than competent enough for studio work.

pretty much what i thought.. but best to make sure on a subject I know little about before passing onto a none internet user .... ta :)

If said person already had the 7D body and are asking if it's suitable - I'd say it would certainly do the job.

If they don't already have the 7D body but are considering one for studio portraits then I think I would be looking at other options.

Of course.

People were doing portrait photography with dSLRs nearly a decade ago. Any perceived faults of the 7D were way worse in those cameras.
