Has anyone had the control dial on a Canon 7D replaced with a locking control dial?

I am a little confused by statements at to time needed for the repair and the variation in cost and would like to contact anyone who has had this change made.

Do u really need that? I mean does it really bother u until u need to change if? I know some people who change it because they are so ****ed when the dial keep twisting by itself :D
 
It would help. I have had the dial move when shooting, without noticing it.................. otherwise I would not be looking at this

Then its a good reason to change it. I have no idea on the cost or time, but u can always email canon and ask about it. Though I remember I read somewhere it takes around 2weeks to get it done. Don't know how true this is.

Sorry Malcolm i meant the rear dial not the mode dial!

How on earth are you adjusting that mid shot? Its out of hands reach?
 
It must get knocked somehow, it's happened a few time, perhaps I have fat fingers!!

Mostly it happens when one slide the camera into a bag. Atleast that's what I heard.

Then it should be no problem for u then. And if I'm not wrong, this modification is quite costly. May reach 100pounds. Correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Two quotes so far £55 and £70............. plus vat.

Hope to hear from someone who has had this mode dial changed.

Use it for long enough and you'll soon find out, is the easy answer.
 
I'm sure I read it was going to be around £80.

If your getting wild variations in quotes, I'd make sure they know what you really want and they don't just replace your current dial with a new version of the same thing.
 
Here you go if it is any help http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=281446 I have had my 7D for a while now, it is in and out the bag quite often, gets slung all over the place if I have just got it over my shoulder whilst treking through the woods, and I have yet to change the dial back from the mode I have it set on :shrug:
