One of the options under this custom fuction allows you to remap a completely different set of auto focus parameters to a button. Unfortunately the only option you have is to use the DOF preview button, which is just about the worst place for the function. There's no way the DOF button falls easily to hand unless you're using pretty short lenses, and it's certainly the wrong place altogether when you're using long lenses and a gimbal head.
The temporary settings are retained as long as you keep the DOF preview button pressed - release it and you return to your preset parameters. This has to be potentially one of the most useful functions on the camera, and Canon have really missed a trick here by not giving you an option to remap to one of the buttons on the back of the camera easily reached with your thumb.
I suppose a software upgrade could easily fix this?
