Canon 7d mk2 batteries same as mk1 batts?

Are the batteries for the Canon 7d Mk2 the same as the canon 7d mk1 batteries?

Sort of, they will work in either camera but charge differently.

The mkII hold a bigger charge but not by a lot, and they need the mkII charger to fully charge them. If you charge them on a mkI charger, you don't get a full charge, you get something like 90% (I cant remember the exact value so will stand corrected if I am wrong). The batteries can be interchanged between the bodies.

Same sort of issue with the 1Dx batteries/charger.

LP-E6 is 1800mAh, LP-E6N is 1865mAh. So not a lot in it

As far as I'm aware the 7D Mk1 & Mk2 both come with the LC-E6E charger so I'd imagine they'd charge the same.

( the capacity change was something to do with Japanese regulations)

The battery is backwards compatible and will charge fully in the LP-6E charger. I have both types and there's no problem but the older battery won't charge in the LP-E6N charger for some strange reason.

Thanks, I have just sold my 7d mk1 but never used the charger as they were the same as my canon 5d mk2.

Both models have a charger with the same designation, yet for some reason the LP-E6N wont fully charge in the older charger. This was discussed at length in the Canon 7D mk2 owners thread, and I have experienced this myself but have no idea why. Unfortunately the search engine on TP seems to be searching the whole forum and not just the one thread when you ask it to, so I haven't been able to find the discussion and there's too may posts to go through in the whole forum.
