Canon 7d Price drop?

No
I notice that today for the first time the 7d has gone under £999 from UK dealers (grey stock obviously) but nevertheless I wonder if this signifies a potential RSP drop by Canon after the launch of the 60D and so potential pricing structure realignment in their range?

The other possibility is an announcement at Photokina of a new body by Canon that they have somehow kept under wraps with everything focused on the 60D seems unlikely though as none of these companies are great at keeping secrets?

What I'd really like is a 7D with the 5Dmkii sensor which some rumours have said will be called the 3D!!

My quandary is do I buy now and run the risk of a further drop this week or is it just the case that a slightly stronger pound has enabled importers to sell at a more favourable price?

I bought my 70 - 200 F4 IS a few weeks ago only to find it dropped over £50 2 days later!

I doubt the 7D will drop much in price until a direct replacement or adversary appears. Any future 5D/7D hybrid will no doubt sit within a higher league and should not affect 7D pricing.

The 7D is a very good camera. For a period I owned both the 7D and 5D MkII, but I kept the 7D.

All of Canon's dSLRs have followed roughly the same price curve. They're only available at the RRP for the first couple of weeks, while retailers grab as much profit as possible from the must-have-it-first, more-money -than-sense brigade. Then the price drops quite steeply over a couple of months, after which it settles down until a newer version is announced.

We're now in the 7D's stable phase. Prices dipped a tiny bit when the 60D appeared but I wouldn't expect any big movements for at least a year now.

As for the 3D - it's been rumoured for a long time now. And most of the rumours are based more on hope than knowledge. If you want a 7D with a 5D sensor then the 1Ds MkIV should be out soon. If you've got £6000 to spare I'm sure it'll be just what you want.

Bound to have dropped in price as I bought mine only 3 weeks ago ........ lol.

Should have said - I already have 1 7D, this will replace my 40D.
Considered the 5D2 but really only for the sensor, the slower autofocus and burst put me off as I take a lot of pics of my dog plus cars on track which all favour the 7d set up.

Point taken on the 1Ds though!

Na na na ( Blocks ears) Can't hear you!, Better put masking tape over glasses too!

Having asked the shop I bought it from why the price had dropped they said it was purely down to competition with dealers on eBay selling direck from HK
I'm very happy to be getting a second one as the other belongs to my GF!

The D7000 is not a million miles away in terms of features and will be a fair bit cheaper. Don't know whether that will make Canon drop the price.

price drop for grey stock is probably just a reflection of £ buying more $ at the moment...

Not sure about that logic as a lot come from Japan (mine does) and if anything the pound is a bit weaker at the moment?

At the end of the day the more competition the better it is for us as long as the aftersales doesn't suffer...
