Canon 7D time lapse ..

Does the Canon 7D take a shutter actuation at a time to build up a time lapse sequence like the Nikon D700 for instance or does it use a different method with it having built in HD video. I personally don't like the idea of using hundreds of shutter actuations to build up a time lapse sequence..
