I am upgrading from my 20D, i don't like the 60D so it was looking like a 7D but while looking at prices i spotted a new 50D body on play.com for £629 so not sure what to do. £500 less than the 7D sounds good but i have never shopped with play .com , are they like Amazon? Plus £500 is better spent on good glass!
 
Can't comment on the cameras, but play.com are a massive retailer, no fears buying from them.
 
That 50D on play isn't actually sold by play - it is sold by a play trader called AJELECTRONICSLTD
They have three ratings of which one isn't positive - Personally I would steer well clear of them.

You can pick up used 50D bodies for under £500 on here now if you are willing to wait for a seller.

With regards to 50D vs 7D - what is your primary reason for upgrade and what sort of photography do you do?
 
depending how do you want to use your camera. if you planning to shoot sports or any fast moving objects then 7d's autofocus system is unbeatable. If you want to shoot just ordinary things like family, architecture, landscapes and things like that, then 50d is more than enough and you're right saying that £500 could be spend on decent lens. Don't forget that 7d can record HD movies as well.
 
What do you not like about the 60d?
 
I was under the impression that the 60D has a slightly smaller form factor and shape to it which could be a reason.
 
Started with a 400d & 10d...my upgrade was a 50d and I love it..

BUT...after a year moving to the 7D.

Will keep the 50d though

Only reason I am after the upgrade is due to speed and the auto focus. Take pics of a lot of Bird of prey at high speed and the 50d strugles while the 7d works well.
 
im thinking of the same move from my 450D.
the 50D has the micro adjust for lenses like the 7D , but the AF on the 7D is better. could the 7D of been better if it had a lower pixel count?
the price diference is a big facter as well
 
Looks like i will save for the 7D. The 50D sounds good at that money but would be better second hand. After always buying second hand i would like a new camera and having held and tried a 7D in a shop i did like it. Many thanks,

Could have been better than what, exactly ?

If you set the camera up correctly and expose properly there is no issue with the IQ on the 7D. I've used it for wildlife, motorsport, portraits & landscapes without any problems.

I think it's actually bigger than the OP's 20D but it doesn't look like we'll even know the reasoning...
 
Ok I don't think its size based anymore

The 60D dimensions are - 145mm x 106mm x 79mm

The 20D dimensions are 144mm x 106mm x 77mm

Not much difference there but the 60D does have different ergonomics.

As you say though we may never find out!
