Canon 7D vs Nikon D300s

After reading What Digital Camera, i'm weighing up a future purchase between the Canon 7D and Nikon D300s. The verdict given by the magazine was that the 7D came out better, but i wonder in the real world just which one is better. (Bearing in mind, of course that the reviewer could possibly be biased towards one, or the other). I have heard so many stories about poor Low ISO performance coming from the Canon, and people on here taking back 7D's as they were not happy with the purchase, and i'm hoping some of you guys out there can put forward your experiences, and maybe some shots taken with either a 7D or D300S so that i can maybe come to a decision between the two? At present i have a 50D and i see both cameras would be an upgrade on my current camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Why do you want to upgrade the 50D? What doesn't it do that you want from the 7D/D300s?

One reason would be the video capture, for when i'm carp fishing. It would be a nice "to have", for recording the landing of fish? Also, it may well be my technique, but i have noticed a lot of my shots of , for example, swans flying, i find the subject a little out of focus a lot of the time? I read that the AF was quicker on the 7D, and figured that this may well help to give me maybe a better chance of getting more keepers?
 
Depends really on whether you've invested heavily in Canon fit lenses. I'm guessing you haven't.

Not sure why you can't get flying swans with a 50D. Got any examples? How are you shooting them?

You do realise the 7D is manual focus in video recording. If you're landing a fish, would you be better with a normal video camera?

i'll try and post some pics up later. busy at work at the moment. didnt realise the video recording was manual focus? may have to give this a rethink
 
Given your lens investment I would go 7D. I am enjoying mine, and only once found probs with low iso noise and that was due to user error.

I'm also looking to do a few airshows this year, and seeing your avatar, i guess you are into airshows, too? have you any photos of aircraft i can see that were taken with your 7D, by any chance?

Thanks not so much airshows but the avatars from last years airbus show that i managed to get into. Here's a slideshow. And I use this one as my backdrop.

You could be doing with adding some contrast
