canon 7d vs nikon d7000

Hi everyone,

I currently own a canon 40d and unfortunately my lens broke so i decided on upgrading instead of replacing the lens.

I am looking for ur opinions which one would be the better choice for action shots or for low light pictures etc and why.... the canon 7d or nikon d7000 I was also looking at the nikon d300s but im totally undecided :shrug:

And if anyone would have a recommandation for a good lens for everyday use would be great :)

Photography is a hobby of mine and i love taking pictures of my dogs, family and landscape and would like a good camera and lens to achieve crisp and clear photos.
 
I went through the same thoughts before buying my Nikon D7000.

D300s is getting pretty old now and the D7000 has better/newer sensor (ISO) etc.

7D is better as making videos and has better fps shooting but not by much.

Try both out as the D7000 and 7D differ in ergonomics, both are great cameras though.

7D is built much better and most likely has better AF (accuracy/reliability) the D7000 likely has slightly better IQ and noise performance.
 
Personally I would wait a few months if you can as the D7000 is due an upgrade which will mean discounts to shift existing stock of what will then be the outdated model
 
The 7D is better at video, has a better build quality, the AF is quicker and of course the fps is greater.
However the Nikon or Canon would be a great choice. All the separates them are small variables as mentioned above including price.

Just pop into a shop and get a feel for both cameras to help your choice.
 
They are both good cameras but to make use of their abilities you need a decent lens. I don't know what your budget is but I would go for a second hand body and put the rest of the money into buying decent lenses

Yes indeed always put money a side for decent quality lens.

I went to a shop today to have a look at both and i really like the bigger build of the canon compared to the nikon. It just felt like better quality.

Had a play about and the 7d looks amazing and i guess its easier for me to handle because i am familiar with most of the settings from my old canon.

Well, the 7d comes with 2 types of standard lenses, either a 15-85mm or a 18-135mm lens. Im not sure on either of them tbh

I am more drawn to the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens with a EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens to start with. Has anyone any experience with any of those lenses, if they are any good?? Or is any of the standard lenses just as good?

I have been saving for quite a while and would really want to make the right choice whatever i buy, so im really trying to get as much info as possible :)
Also any recommendations where the best place is to buy any equipment for a reasonable price??
 
If you don't mind buying second hand mpb photographic is a good place. For new you could try Hdewcameras, flash cameras, good prices but bare in mind they are imported from Hong Kong and America, that's why their cheaper.
 
Im not sure what happened to my 40d, the body works just fine but the lens started to get an error whenever i try to shoot on maunual mode below 24mm. It does my head in, because then i have to turn the camera off and back on to get rid of the error saying the camera cant connect with the lens, that i have to clean the contacts.

I was wanting to upgrade for a long time but always been postponing it thinking this one will do me just fine atm

I will have a look at those places, i have seen some imported from hong kong, does that mean they are not as good as the uk ones, hence why they are cheaper?
 
Exactly the same items, but warranty is usually with the shop, rather than manufacturer.
 
The advantage with Hdew is you get a three year warranty, the first year is fixed by canon themselves and the other two are with a external company, I have never had to use it but its an extra piece of mind should anything happen
 
ah, i see ... i definitly need warranty. For an item that is so much money i think the extra piece of mind is definitly worth it :)
 
The 15-85 is a great focal range on APS-C sensors. I owned the the 17-55 and although it is widely regarded as an amazing lens, I had issues with mine.

I had both brand new at the same time.The 7D is far better build but the auto focus could not compete with the D7000 in continuous mode or low light.I even asked the man from Jacobs and was told the 7D had an older auto focus system and that was why it could not compete.Everything else was good on the 7D.But I do sport and use continuous focus and low light a lot so I sold it and stuck with the D7000.:cool:

I have the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 and it's an amazing lens. I've just upgraded to a full frame camera though and so sadly am going to have to sell it. Do you want me to PM you once it's listed in the classifieds so you know it's up for sale? And no the standard lenses aren't a patch on this one... it really is a beast!
