Do any of you guys own, or have owned, the Canon Powershot A460 camera?

The specs says it'll support SD and SDHC cards, but most of the reviews I've read haven't tried any cards bigger than 2GB. Do any of you guys know if there's a limit? have any of you tried it with an SDHC card larger than 2GB?

Please don't let me know if you've used bigger cards with other Powershots and "it's worked in that so it's probably ok". I just need to order some memory cards, and need to know if this'll take 4GB or 8GB (or even 16GB) SDHC cards.

Yes, it's also available via the Canon website too, and the "Manual" says it supports SDHC, but not to what capacity. I've seen cameras before that have said they support SDHC before, but have an upper end limit of 2GB, 4GB, or whatever.

Hence, my post here. :)

Mmm, Fairly old camera . . . in digital terms?? . . . I recon that long ago, the very large capacity cards were not available ???? I know that dont help much, and its no good me talking about my A640:shake: I would ask the same question . . . Hope someone can throw some more light . . . ;)

And what's your point?

Yes, it's a camera that was unleashed on the public 3 years ago. That's plenty enough time for many TP members or their friends, family members and other assorted associates to have bought and used one. :)

So, if anybody out there has an A460, I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you. :)

My point? . . . Technology then; 2-4gb cards, these days; 8-16gb. Not trying to make a point, just a general conversation style observation :shrug:

I think a more accurate point would be that digital cameras from 3 years ago weren't made to support about 2-4gb, at least none of the ones I had at the time were. Hope you consider that to be helpful and don't get as snotty as you seemed to with CJS.
 
No, the accurate point is what's the maximum that the A460 is capable of? :)

Hence my question and plea to A460 owners.

Not trying to be snotty, just specifically wanted responses from people with actual experience of the A460 (that specific model).

in my initial post. :)

Computers made 5 years ago weren't designed to handle 2TB drives, but many actually do. My D100 (from 8 years ago) supports 8GB CompactFlash.

So, I'm sorry, but it was not helpful.
 
Thanks for that waspjunior, but I'm not sure how accurate their info is, as it also lists the 16GB cards for a couple of cameras I know won't read anything higher than a 4GB. :(

Right, dunno if this is helpful or not but I have an A470 that uses a 4GB card and I've just tested it with an 8GB card (micro card with adapter) and all works well. :shrug:
 
Dont Cannon have an 'Individual Help line'?

You seem to have been around for a while Kaouthia, do you know any one with these big cards that you can do a quick format and a few shots trial?

Or order the cards, if they dont work they will in the D300 (I think?) Resorting to standard 2 and 4GB Jobie's 'cheap as chips' for the A460.
 
Don't have the A460s in my hand yet (I've got 3 of them on the way), that's why I was posting. I've got a 16GB SDHC card in my D300s already.

Anyway, I've ordered three 8GB card, so we'll see.

Well, the three cameras arrived today, and have zero problems with a 16GB SDHC card. :)

The problem with the smaller ones is that I will need to leave these cameras unattended for several days or weeks at a time doing automated shooting. So smaller cards will fill up far too quickly.

If the 16mb cards had not worked, you would have been stuffed, it would seem:shrug:

Well, I didn't need to tell any story to get my question answered from people who own, or have owned, A460 cameras which is what I requested. :)

And considering I picked up the cameras for 8 quid each, if they didn't work, I'm sure I'd have been able to get over the loss. ;)

Yep . . . fair enough. However, the words 'more interesting' come to mind . . . Might we get to know what they are to be used for, and see the results? :)
 
Eventually. If these work out to be all that I hope, then the project I have in mind for them will last several weeks.

But yup, I'll be popping the results up on here once done. :)
