Hi, i am currently running PSE8 and lightroom 3 with my canon 50d , i also have faststone image viewer instaled,i shoot RAW all the time.......I have bought a nikon d3100 as as second camera and what i would like help on is would i need to install anything else on my PC so i can view the pics from the nikon.Any advice would be apreciated .Thanks

Would have thought PE8 and lightroom would have been able to see the files from the Nikon okay

Try Nikon View NX2 - it is probably on the CD and is great for NEF files.

The latest version is 2.2.1.

Just use Lightroom, you dont need anything else.
LR will pick them up without you needed to do anything.
I edit D700 NEF, D3100 NEF and Canon 40D CR2 files on my Lightroom all the time.

What Nikon's own software, View NX2 (free) and Capture NX2 (paid for) will do is read all the shooting settings and apply them to the images on import, all non destructively. It will also allow you to apply different camera shooting settings (Picture Controls) in the application.
Capture also has very powerful local adjustment capabilities, for example you can apply noise reduction to just the sky and the grass, while increasing the exposure on the face only to add some fill light. It really works and is very effective.
