Canon battery care

It's pretty complicated and there are lots of care guides online. Maybe not for consumer electronics but for remote control cars/planes etc.

The battery technology is typically lithium polymer, or "lipo".

In short, it's best to store them around half charged.
 
Yes if you know you are not going to be using it for a while storing half charged will maximise their life. However batteries are cheap and for the sake of having to pay £10 for a new battery every 3 years instead of 5 I would rather have fully charged batteries so when I want to use the camera the batteries will not die on me.
 
Third party batteries Vaughan, Ive used canon, hanhel and 7 day shop ones, each are as good as each other in my experience.
 
For charging I generally run them down and then recharge, sometimes I top them up from about 1/2 way.

the lpe8 non branded batteries I bought were useless out of 4 only one has any hope of being a battery and is no where near as good as the canon
batteries
I bought some duracells and they seem equally as good as the oe canon
 
I always keep mine charged up ready for use and, as I've got plenty, don't recharge until it runs flat. I regularly use my camera so it's unlikely I'd ever need to store them for 6 months anyway. If I'm going on a major shoot I'll make sure all my batteries are refreshed and ready for loading. I have 2 genuine and 6 3rd party LP-E6 batteries and the wife has 1 genuine and 5 3rd party and all the batteries work as well as the Canon genuine ones, but at a fraction of the price.
