Some time ago I recieved an email saying I could control my canon cameras remotly using ipod touch or iphone . I am being given an ipod touch this Christmas and would like to use it to control my cameras I wonder if anyone knows where I could buy the software to do this.

You do have to be in a wifi zone (or an ad hoc wireless network) to use it, with your camera connected to a laptop I think, still very cool though.

if you are connecting it to your laptop already, can't you control your camera from the laptop instead or am I missing something here?

The touch is so much easier to walk around with it also has more features.

Thankyou guys

Why would you use this as opposed to a wireless remote? If you have to be hooked up to the laptop I can't see the point, or am I missing something?

Nope, you're not missing anything. It's pretty daft and mostly pointless but if you like gadgets, it ticks alot of boxes.

The only concievable use I can see for it, would be if you were taking a self portrait and wanted to check/adjust focus, as the iphone's can display a live view image and adjust focus remotely.

Aside from that improbable situation I think it's largely pointless, but still undeniably cool.
