I need to find a scsii card 'i know I have one here somewhere' ! before I can try it.

Anyone here ever used one ? or know if they're any good ?

I have one. It came supplied with some ISA proprietary SCSI card but in theory should work with any SCSI card and I used it with a cheap Adaptec card after motherboards stopped having ISA slots. Even if you already have a card, finding device drivers might be a problem, especially if you are using 64 bit Windows (I have no clue about Macs).

I gave up with mine and bought a Plustek 7400, which gives better results, faster, and with much less hassle and was less than 200 quid (the 2700f was 500 new).

I spent far more time trying to get that old Canon thing to work than I spent actually scanning. The Plustek was the opposite.

Even worse ... I'm running Linux !

I'll see if I can get it going :)

If you can get the scsi connection going and your using Linux then have a look at Vuescan and see if your scanner is supported.
