Canon DPP Laptop users help please

in recent months I have been having an ongoing PC nightmare with so much money spent it is frightening
any way to cut a long story short I have bought a Dell xps 12 laptop which is a great little machine but Canon Digital Pro software just will not load on it at all telling me the resolution is not good enough ??

which has me really puzzled as it is running 1920x1080 using an Intel I7 Cpu with the onboard graphics

after lot of reading up and messing about searching apparently this is a common problem with this software and Canon are supposedly well aware of this software on smaller screen laptops etc

some folks have got it working via an external screen by switching off there Laptops own inbuilt screen and managed to get it working

I use the Canon software for batch processing huge amounts of images and do not want start using something else

I have tried lots of times reinstalling the software like these other guys have done yet it just wont have it telling me my screen res is not hi enough

yet my daughters boyfriend is 5 yrs old and the slowest dog of a thing yet the software runs on it!!!!!

so please any help at all in how to get this software running on my new Dell laptop
I use it 4 days a week for my work files and

Have you tried the "troubleshoot compatibility" option by right clicking on the desktop icon?

I am using 8.1 and right clicking the desktop icon does not give me that option
after further reading the Canon software apparently will run on some machines at 16 bit.. sadly in windows 8.1 there seems to be no way of changing down to 16 bit from 32

never in my widest nightmare did I imagine all this 'performance' just to get Canon's software to run
and at this point it looks a non starter
which I find amazing from one of the top camera producers in the World
 
according to canons site 3.13.45 is the level you need to run. looking at other sites it maybe necessary to uninstall and start again
 
Have you tried setting the laptop screen resolution to a lower resolution similar to your daughter's boyfriend's older laptop. You can restore the resolution to all its full glory when you stop using DPP.

Computers are strange beasts this Probably won't work but worth a try.

tried that it wont work... pretty sure it is because the software wont work on a small screen in 32 bit mode
sadly windows 8.1 does now allow a colour bit less than that
tried running the compatibility mode and it is just the same
an absolute nightmare this is turning into
 
I find it very difficult to believe that your laptop won't run 32 bit software. A modern laptop will either have 32 bit or 64 bit architecture so it should run the programme. This is born out by the story of others using external monitors successfully. The software is the same only the screen changes. This then begs the question is it the laptop monitor itself. Can you change the graphics driver down to simple VGA. Won't do much for picture quality but might help eliminating possibilities. Have you also tried to change the actual photos from 16 bit to 8 bit depth to see what happens. You can change them back later.

I have no doubt you have
I am sat here with my daughters botfrieds 5yr old Laptop with it working fine
the only trouble is that it is his laptop and it is far too slow for my work needs processing thousands of images a week
what I need is it working on my Laptop which is an I7 bought at Xmas for this purpose
and it just wont have it at all

the screen size is only 12.5 inches and windows 8.1 64bt
I am in a state of shock that a Laptop of this spec wont run the Canon DPP software google searches show it is quite common
I really dont know what to do next bar sending a perfectly good laptop back to Dell because the Canon software wont run on it

tried everything and it just wont have it

Canon apparently is aware of this situation according to Various sources and have done nothing about it
The DPP is ideal software for batch processing Canon files in large numbers with the renaming feature and basic editing features I do not want to use any other software

but did not expect a state of the art Laptop to be unable to run the software
sorry if I come across as grumpy but I have had an ongoing situation for a number of months with major PC woes and a small fortune spent rectifying this
the Laptop was purchased for this task and never did I imagine it would not run the damned software from Canon

To get it to work right click your desktop icon for dpp then choose properties, then click on the compatibilty tab and put a check in the box that says disable display scaling on high dpi settings . Merry Christmas.
