CANON EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, good lens?

Hello all just needed some advice from anyone who owns or has owned this lens, i see them brand new on Ebay for £450 so it's within my budget, i intend using it on my Canon 5D, i mainly shoot the odd wedding and do portraits, so that will be it's main use.

Is the maximum F/4 a disadvantage at all?

Any advice please, cheers.

I've had one for years. On my 7d I was never convinced.

When I got the 5d iii a couple of years back however I found they are a great match and now I think it's terrific.

Should be fine on your 5Dc

Its a good "Walkabout" lens, and being a Canon "L" it gives pretty good images.
That said I was very surprised to see colour fringing in the highlight areas which I hadn't seen in my 7D + old sigma 28-200.
On my 5D3 the pictures are excellent and you can use a lens profile to automatically correct for any issues.
 
The 24-105L and 85 f/1.8 are my two most used lenses on my 5D3. I didn't like the 24-105 at first and even thought about selling it at one point, but I've since got used to it and use it as my walkabout.

I'm a prime lover though, so now I'm back to thinking of buying a fast 35mm and 135L and selling this one.

First class walkabout lens. £450 new is a good price but be careful if buying from overseas you may have to add import duty etc to the purchase price.

I don't particularly like it but it's fine on a FF frame body, which you have.

Panamoz (grey importer) are usually the cheapest for lenses and they are asking £503, so I would say that £450 is a very decent price.

I hardly used my 24-105 when I got a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX HSM but I took it on a trip to London last year and used it all day for sightseeing and a gig with 5 bands playing. I had to use flash in the gig because the lighting in the venue was virtually non existant (a single red rope light going round the top of the stage). I took around 800 photos on the trip and I've got over 700 photos from them that I'm pleased with. I was going to sell my 24-105 and the Sigma 24-70 and put the money towards a Canon 24-70 f2.8L II but in the end I couldn't part with the 24-105 so I dipped into the bank account a bit further than I'd hoped. I use it primarily on my 5D3 (which I used for the London trip) but I do also use it on my 70D and on the 7D I had previously and like others have said, it goes better with a full frame camera but it still produces great quality images on a crop and it's a very versatile lens if you have a crop and FF body. I've seen it advertised new on ebay for around £475 but that doesn't include duty and vat. As Neil says above at #7, Panamoz have a great price but if you can get one cheaper I doubt you'd regret it.
 
This is the Ebay seller of this lens for £449, and UK based, am i missing something?
 
I use one on my 6D and its a fantastic lens, possibly the best FF walkabout around IMO. I have some beautiful shots from it, and in a lot of cases its as sharp as some of my primes. The only drawback is the barrel distortion at 24mm but that is easy corrected in Lightroom with a click of a button.

They look to be legit enough, they've been an ebay member for over 10 years, are based in the UK (unlike a lot of sellers that say the item is delivered from UK) and have a lot of good feedback for some high value items. I did notice however, they ask for payment by Paypal or bank transfer and common sense would advise you pay by Paypal until you get to know a seller rather than jump straight on to a BT. Panamoz have the 24-105 at £503 or £477.85 if paid by BT, but with Panamoz you can find a lot of good reviews on here from very satisfied customers. I've bought from Panamoz and fully trust them enough to pay by BT (I bought a 24-70 f2.8L II by BT only a couple of weeks ago) and to recommend others to do the same.

However, it's your money and you obviouly want to use it in the best way possible and you can save a few pounds by buying from the ebay seller, in all honesty I doubt there would be any problems with an ebay seller with 99.9% positive feedback with over 13,000 ratings. I'd certainly give them a look the next time I'm looking to buy something off ebay. Hope you get sorted soon.
