Hi all i need a mid range zoom lens to replace my Canon EF 28-80mm MK1 lens.
I don't know weather or not the price tag of the 24-105 L lens is justifiable image quality wise.

I'm trying to decide weather or not to sell my 70-200mm f4 L lens and put some money towards a 24-105mm L .

Or do i just go 28-135mm and save the cash.

I used to own a 17-85mm which i got with the 50d and it had quite bad fringing the 28-135mm
looks to have the same build quality and i wonder what the fringing is like on the 28-135mm.

Although i wouldnt be using the 28-135mm for landscapes so i don't think fringing would come into play.

I would be using more as a portrait/wedding and walkabout lens.

I initally purchased the 70-200mm lens as a portrait lens but i find the focal length too long for me personally.
Maybe if i used a full frame camera the focal length would work better.

Thanks for any help;)

I have owned both the 28-135mm and the 17-85mm lenses on crop sensors.

I found the 17-85mm to be the better lens on both build quality and image quality. I don't know specifically about fringing because I never really checked but sharpness wide open on the 17-85mm is not bad compared to the 28-135mm I had.

24-105mm easy. but if you were looking for something cheaper. then the 15-85mm (the successor to the 17-85mm) might be a good choice. not a huge leap in image quality but a familiar range with a bit more on the wide end. the 24-105mm is definitely the next level though.
