Canon Ef 28-80mm

Hi, I am a novice when it comes to camera equipment. Want to buy a Canon 1100d Eos for my wife. We have a non digital Canon Eos 500n with the above mentioned zoom lens (ef 28-80mm). Can this lens be used on a digital camera like the 1100d? So does it make sence to buy just the camera body? Thanks a lot.

The Canon 1100d has an 'ef-s' mount. All ef and ef-s lenses should work on an ef-s (i.e. 'crop') body but ef-s lenses will not work on an ef (i.e. 'full-frame') body.
