Hello :)

I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with the above 2 lenses. The first one (f1.8 USM) is roughly £200 more than the other one - is it THAT much better? The other one is 2.8 so other than it being a bit better in low light, is the USM worth that much more?

Both get good reviews on FredMiranda but I am unsure of which to get, and if the 1.8 is worth that much more!

Thanks for any help!

f/1.8 is always invaluable IMO. So for me I'd go the f/1.8 but.......

if your on a crop camera then the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 gets good reviews. Plus it's TWO stops faster than the 28 f/2.8 and essentially one stop faster than the f1/.8. You'll throw backgounds out of focus well at f/1.4

Yeah, I wouldn't sell the 50mm. It's hardly worth anything really is it when you think about it.

Personally I'd buy the Sigma, I think if you search hard enough you'll see problems with any lens and most of the Sigma range are absolutley fine, it's just fasionable to blame Sigma Quality Control. It's not as good as the Canon QC is but it's not far off.

If you really want to stay away from the lens I'd still say the f/1.8, perhaps try used if money is tight?

I got a 28/1.8 and its a great lens, but I'm using it as a wide prim (assuming you are on crop that makes mine 17.5mm equiv) it is an amazing wide prime. It's a lot better built than the 50/1.8 and focusses a lot faster, both of which are important to me.

I haven't used a 28/2.8 so I can't comment but I'd go for the 1.8 IF I had the cash laying around

Have had both and the 1.8 is both better optically and better build quality
