Canon EF 2x extender II

Hi, I'm new to this forum, I am thinking of buying one of these to add to add to the focal length of my Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L-series lens as I cant afford to buy another expensive lens.

Can anyone tell me if It's worth it and what are the drawbacks?

most say you lose some image quality, you also make the lens "slower" in effect by losing f2.8

I use the 2x on my 70-200mm f2.8 on occasions but only when necessary as it does affect image quality a fair bit plus the AF is slower and you lose 2 stops of light. You would be better off going with the 1.4x as there is little difference in performance and you still gain a bit more reach.

If your lens is the 70-200/2.8 IS Mk2, you'll probably get good results with either the 1.4x or 2x. If it's the Mk1 version, or non-IS, probably not. You'll lose light of course (lens becomes 98-280mm f/4 with 1.4x, and 140-400mm f/5.6 with 2x) but you'll retain AF.
