I’m looking to buy a decent used 35mm fast lens for a FF camera. Most of my lenses are Canon but in this case is the price difference justified? The reviews suggest that the Canon is the best but at a cost.

Tamron 35/1.4 is the one you want

or Sigma 28 or 40mm if you can compromise on FL.

Or just buy Sony and one of the new excellent E mount lenses. That's by far the best advice.

I had the Sigma, couldn’t justify the extra cost of the Canon.

I have ordered a Tamron. I had a bad experience with a Tamron several years ago and have avoided them ever since. However time for another try. Getting MPB to deliver to a non-home location proved to be difficult but hopefully I’ll get the lens in the next day or so.

The Canon mark ii has great reviews but the £2k + price for a new lens is excessive in my view and the used prices are approximately double those of the Tamron and Sigma.

Just wish 3rd party manufacturers were allowed to produce RF FF mount lens. Unfortunately I cannot see this happening.

The 2 best value lenses I’ve owned have been Tamron. A 90mm macro, slow af, noisy, but sharp and cheap. And a 17-35 UWA which is slightly slow AF wise, but is optically great and as I use it rarely deserves its place in my shrinking kit.
