Do you mean the FD 50mm f/1.4, like this one of mine on one of my A-1s?

You can get FD to EOS adapters, but without a glass element, they won't reach infinity focus. With glass in the adapter, you're losing some of the quality that you're using the lens for.
I couldn't be bothered and bought an EF 50mm f/1.4 for my 5D (though I did just buy a glassless FD-EOS adapter to use FD macro lenses on EOS bodies when I don't need infinity focus).
As well as FD film bodies, my FD lenses do get a lot of use on Micro 4/3 digi bodies, for which you don't need an optical adapter...

What you need is a Canon FD to EF converter. There are two types, one being a simple mount but you lose infinity focus. You can get the other type which is fitted with a small lens which restores infinity focus.
Set the aperture by hand on the lens but in AV mode the camera will choose the shutter speed. Manual focusing only obviously.

I'm sorry of course I meant FD. I'm really surprised I can use this with the EOS, is it worth trying? Thanks for the replys, I will look at the converters anyway.
Edit; Well just had a look and they are cheap enough to have a play. The A1 has a patch of mould on the shutter,plus other problems so its unlikely to ever be used again and it seems a shame for the lens to just sit around unused.

Well, an infinity-focus FD to EOS adapter is likely to cost you in the region of £20 to £30, with no guarantees about the quality of the optics.
The FD 50mm f/1.4 can sell for between £50 and £70 without too much difficulty if it's in good condition.
For about £70 to £100 (i.e. the difference between the sum of your costs and opportunity cost) you can buy a brand new EF 50mm f/1.8 Mk II.
Granted it's not in quite the same league as the FD or EF 50mm f/1.4, but you get a warranty, autofocus and little uncertainty about the standard of the end result.
Received wisdom four or five years ago, before a deluge of cheap FD-EOS adapters appeared on the market, was that it definitely wasn't worth the effort.
If you have a lot of other FD lenses (and you intend to continue using them with your A-1) it might be worth looking at. If it's just the one, I'd suggest it's still probably not worth it.
