Do many people use or want to use fisheye zooms? I always thought Canon would be better off going after a rival to the Nikon 14-24mm.

I think that's pure speculation on the part of B&H.

The latest official word from Canon, on March 24th, was that following the earthquake the release date for the 8-15mm (and the new versions of the 300/2.8 and 400/2.8) was "undecided".

I'd rather have a 15mm prime that went to f2.8 and was probaby half the price.

Me too, but I'm on a full frame sensor, on a cropped sensor the 15mm fisheye won't give the full fisheye effect.
