Yes
Im just wondering how many of you who have and how often you use it and in what situations?

Im asking as I have a 18-55, 55-250 and a 70-300. all between f.3.5-5.6

So I am assuming the 50mm 1.8 is better for the darker shots, what other situations is it good for?

thanks

I use mine most of the time, people, places, low light, indoors.... once you start using it, it becomes addictive!

Although I am getting a 35mm now as the 50 is just a tad too long for me!

A shallow dof if required.

it rarely leaves my camera as I am always taking portrait shots. It's not just better for low light (which it is good at) but because it has a wider aperture you get a shallower DOF and when taking portraits you can get more bokeh. To achieve this with your 70-300 you'd need to be at around 200mm and standing 3x further back and as a result you'd need a steadier hand, shutter speed of 150 minimum to avoid camera shake, whereas with the 50 you can be about 2 meters away shutter speed 60.

Also getting the sigma 30mm 1.4 this week

It also makes a very compact camera setup on a 450d, which can come in really handy.

... and as other have said, great for low light and blurred backgrounds.

I've had mine for a few months and have more than 200 with it lol

goes to show one mans lens is another mans doorstop

I don't use mine as much as the 55-250, but under some circumstances it's been used heavily.. low light, and lots of people... lens wide open, lots of light, and very shallow DOF so the people are blurred.

Portraits or images where a shallow depth of field is needed.

Good in low light conditions too.

if you want a shot of quality, portraits for example, that will outshine the rest of your lenses for sharpness, even at an aperture the others could achieve like f4 for example. use the 50mm

I've found that as time has gone on, I've used my nifty more than I do my 24-70. I've got the point with it where I just 'know where to stand', with standings portraits, people and street scene shots, as opposed to standing still and zooming away backwards and forwards. My 24-70's reserved for out and about landscape and architecture shots in the main.
