God this lens is sharp, everytime I use it Im just so happy with the quality.

Even on my 50d back up its so perfect.

If you are thinking of getting one, I really would say go for it. :-)

Hey Paul! Congrats on your new toy :)

Could you do a review on it for the TP Review Section when you get a chance? This is exactly the sort of gear that people would find it really useful to have opinions on. There is a review template to use if it would help.

Thank you!

Dont do it Dave... hahaha next time we meet up you can borrow mine for a few shots to confirm you actually DO want one.

Oh dear..:'( thanks Richard..:help:

You're welcome bud :D

To expand on that, to be fair the old Mk1 is hardly a bad lens! The big question when the MkII was announced was why?!

But now it's here, it is indeed usefully sharper than the Mk1 but you'll have to look close to see that and I don't think that's the biggest advantage.

The thing for me is that the sharpness is so high it has got resolution in hand that comes to life when you put a teleconverter on it. The old version was okay with a 1.4x, but the new one is really quite good even with a 2x. It's pretty much a match for the 100-400L, which is really quite an achievement.

So, if you look at it that way, it is not only the best 70-200 2.8 known to man, it is an incredible 70-400mm f/2.8-5.6 zoom - with 4-stops IS and weatherproofed. Just one lens with a TC to replace two big expensive zooms - flippin bargain.

There's a detailed review on the-digital-picture.com http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-70-200mm-f-2.8-L-IS-II-USM-Lens-Review.aspx Check out this link and compare it to the 100-400L. Stunning lens, Even I can take sharp pictures now. Await snide comments now:lol:

HI,
Has anybody tried this new lens with a 2x converter yet?
Would be interested what the max. apperture is at 400mm.
How does it affect the AF speed and sharpness.

Thanks
