Canon EOS 1D Mk.II battery problem.

Hi guys,

I have an EOS 1D Mk.II which is giving me problems. It shot fine all last season with batteries lasting a good 1000 exposures at 1/320 ish. I got to the AUTOSPORT show at the start of the year, having given both batteries a refresh charge in the week running up to the show and the camera has decided not to work. What is happening is:

I put in a charged battery and all looks fine, including the battery life indicator on the multi-display panel on the top of the body.

I go to take an image and instantly the battery is dead according to the display. The shutter actuates but the camera doesn't record an image.

If I take the battery out and put it back in again the camera forgets that it thinks its out of battery and returns to displaying full charge, until again, I try to take photo.

I have got two newer bodies now so the Mk.II isn't as vital as it was before, (though a little more notice before spending £3k on two Mk.IVs would make the accountant happier) but I would like to revive the 2 if I can. I bought another new, non-canon battery for the camera and charged that as soon as it arrived before trying it and nothing happened. I still have the same problem, which leads me to believe its a problem with the software in the camera. A remote camera on a tripod for some events would be nice this year so if I can breathe life back into this body I would be a happy man.

Any ideas?

Dirt or corrosion on the cameras contacts maybe letting the voltage to show but not enough current to do anything?
The internal memory keeping button battery perhaps? Sometimes computers do funny things when the button batt dies.
Know what you mean about keeping an old faith full. Haven't used my Mk.II in years. Occasional fondle and play then back in the draw. Loath to sell it though, worth peanuts.

I think you mis-understand sir, I need a camera that can get hit by a rally car without causing tears! Thanks for the tip though, that would be the battery thats hiding in the top of the battery enclosure yeah, the watch style battery?
