hi,
can anyone tell me how / where these rate in the canon stable please, and what would one expect to have to pay for a mint used model.....

The 1D mark IIN is the immediate forerunner of Cannons current top sports camera the mark III (although the rumored mark IV can't be that far off). I sold mine a while back for £1200. I'd imagine the price would still be the same now. It's a superb camera, heavy, but very very good!

the 1dmk2n is still classed as many to be canon's most reliable model due to all the problems with the 1dmk3.

prices anything from £1100-1350 depending on condition and if its dealer or private sale and how much warranty it has.

thanks for the replies, so would you think that the price of £1750 for a copy that is as new, with less than 3000 actuations would be overpriced.....

yes.
I know Canon gear has gone through the roof but that does sound too much to me.

I wouldn't pay that. I sold a mint one with less then 10K actuations for 1500 quid about 2 years ago.

bill,
do you think the price you got for yours would be reasonable then ?
also do they take CF cards, and do they share batteries with other canon models or only dedicated ones ??

sounds high to me - have a look around at some of the well known dealers and you'll get some idea of what they're worth. To be honest I wouldn't worry too much about the shutter count, these are pro cameras that are made to be used.

Assuming you mean me and not Bill, I think the price was fair 2 years ago I wouldn't expect to get that now. I think mho nailed the top price about right at £1350. I think the seller has to be a bit more realistic - as someone said earlier the 1DMK3 has been out a while now and there's going to be a new version any time soon so you're going to be seeing nice 1DMk3s going used for about that money.

Well I accept that prices have risen and also that used kit reflects this too. Given that I wouldn't be surprised to see a mint one at £1300 - £1400 or so. It also depends if it's a private sale or a dealer? But I just think £1750 is way too high.

postcardcv has answered the questions about memory cards and batteries quite accurately.

cheers
