Canon EOS 500D vs NIKON D5000

thats not the question ,:D yeah d700 lol well selling the 5d off, miss the 40d , but looking at these two bodies i posted here

id go for the canon 500d, the focus motor is a pretty big thing for me:thumbs:

i like my canons, and for the minimal extra cost and weight, i think the focus motor in the body offers a larger lens choice with Auto focus. meaning i get the lens i want rather than the one that they want me to buy. each to there own though

I would say go for the body with the motor in also, for the same reasons regarding lens choice.

On warehouse express at the moment a 50D is cheaper than a 500D, so I don't really see why someone would bother with the 500D. Maybe I'm missing something?

the 500d is newer, give it a few months and it will be cheaper

well i was selling ma 5d and getting a 1dmk2 dunno if it worth it.

but then saw these two ,got me thinking
or
sell it all go over to the darkside

Eh? Methinks you're getting confused. All Canons since 1987 have had the focussing motor in the lens, not the body. That's why everything works with everything else.

Focus motors in the camera body is a Nikon trait. The fact that some but not all of their bodies have focus motors, and some but not all of their lenses have focus motors, is the reason why Nikon camera manuals all contain a huge lens compatibility chart.

My mistake then, thanks for the info, how comes some sigma lenses without HSM work on canons but not the low end nikons??

either way, if you get the canon, it will autofocus as long as you use a current EF fit lens is what i meant:thumbs:

iam just looking an thinking at this stage ,and wanted to know what you guys thoughts were on these two cams

Probably down to how Sigma design their nikon fit lenses - ie to interface with Nikons body focus motor.

With Canon they don't need to, as they have to build a motor into the lens regardless.

Just because they're not HSM doesn't mean they don't have a focus motor. HSM is Sigma's equivalent of Canon's USM. Not all Canon EOS lenses are USM, but they all work.

you seem to be taking a few steps back, any particular reason if you dont mind me asking???

as in a 5d and 40d to a 500d

i see ,just thinking aloud really,

dont really see 5d back 40d as a down grade or owt,
