Have been looking into getting a 5D and seen a place that sells used 5D Mk1 for around £600.

Is this camera worth buying? Ideally I would like MKII but this is a little out my current price range.

Agreed - Yes.

I have a 60D and now 5D and just realised today that I almost always reach for the 5D now - and the 60D is an excellent camera!

Its an average price...

Word from a retailer is to not buy a 5d1 right now, since the 5dII was reduced in price the price reduction hasn't really filtered down to the 5D1 so within weeks/months the 5d1 will come down in price again as well.
 
Dont spoze the retailer says dont buy a mkii because the mkiii is just round the corner does he? :lol: or here try this 1DX :lol:

The 5D is a beautiful camera and through a stroke of luck, I've been fortunate enough to just now upgrade to having all 5DMKII's in our setup.

There's something about the file that the 5D produces, that just makes it magical. I found that it had a lot more latitude with exposure than any other camera in that price range (new or old). Compared to the 5DMKII, anything over 1200 ISO is noticeable, the focus is marginally slower and so is FPS. But all stuff that anyone could easily live with.
 
I think it's a great camera for what I shoot these days (landscape/travel/static cars), what do you shoot?
 
I think it's a great camera for anything that doesn't require fast AF and high FPS. There's a very nice smoothness to the photos which I did not get from 40D.
 
Having looked at a couple of comparison websites I actually prefer the images a Mk1 produces over the Mk2, the Mk2 is for me just a little to oaccurate and sharp (herasy I know!!!). Coming from 35mm film from years gone by the Mk1 is about as close as I have seen in a digital camera. Well worth the money if a good example. Check that the mirror has been done of course.

I mainly shoot landscapes but I am dabbling with a little portrait stuff at the moment.

Thanks again for the advice and think at end of month I shall invest in the 5D.
 
In that case I think a 5D will work for you.
