I currently own a 40D and would be interested to hear of their experience of upgrading to the 7D from other 40D users. I am especially interested in the speed and accuarcy of autofocussing with the 7D.
I have read many (if not all) of the reviews, but am interested in real world experiences, warts and all. The upgrade would be expensive for me and I only want to make the jump if there are real practical benefits of doing so.
Many thanks in advance.:help::clap:

I've made the jump from a 40D to the 7D and so far I haven't regretted it! I shoot a lot of motorsports and the AF tracking is really good for this and has definitely helped improve my keeper rate.

You do hear stories about it being quite noisy at high iso's but I can honestly say this isn't a problem I've come across.

It's definitely an excellent purchase! :thumbs:

I cant compare as i havent owned a 40d...bt the AF is brill on the 7D...with wildlife/ sports firing of a few shoots to allow for movement will 99% of the time give you a good capture....the different choices of AF points is also valuable. Its a very fast AF system, especially with a fast lens! No regrets here.

the 7d is close to the mk3 for AF ,its a super camera , miles ahead of the 40d .

Marcel also just made this jump - I believe he is happy for doing this...

So have I, and the 7 is noticeably better than the 40D, it has some advantages over the 1D4 which I've been testing recently (point AF is only available on the 1D4 with prime super telephotos, a mistake Canon uk recognise) whereas it is available with all lenses on the 7D.
No hesitation in recommending it, but it repays reading the manual and the Canon white paper on the autofocus system.

Thanks to all who responded. Looks like I have no choice but to take the plunge!!!!

One comment however, I'm not too impressed with the noise at iso levels above 400, however I can't compare it directly to the 40D as I sold mine when I bought the 7D.
Personally I think Canon should have been better to go for about 14 Mpix.

I would pack my 40D away before going above ISO400. With the 7D I'm quite happy to use ISO1600.
