Canon EOS M Series Cameras

Just a shot in the dark (pun not really intended) but have you got "Exp Sim" (exposure simulation) turned on? I know this one has caught me out a few times.

Good call, yes exposure simulation is switched on mainly because even using the viewfinder I can see quickly what effect adjustments have. I'm not sure of implications of switching this off, but will give it a try ...just incase it solves the problem

but if I can keep getting pics like this (albeit cropped in close) I will be happy
Good stuff not a lot wrong with that Andrew (y)

Couple of recent hoverflies

thank you - wish I could master getting as sharp and close up images as you do though
Thank you also (y)
And don't worry it'll come in time with practice ...
You should have seen some of my early attempts, crap doesn't come close.
I'm not sure if my photography improved or my use of photoshop TBH :D

Which version of Camera RAW are you using ?
I never shoot raw, I use CS5 (mostly) But it is capable of opening Jpegs in ACR v6 ( I've had CS5 for years)
Sometimes I use Affinity, I picked it up while it was on special offer ( half price, I think it cost me £25 and is a very good clone of CS 5)
And Topaz De-noise sometimes too.
Both available as a trial version if you fancy either or (y)

Agree totally, getting too old to learn another program :)
That makes 2 of us then :D

(But the lay out is very similar as is the tools)

@Mystery57
What I forgot to add, Andrew, and should have mentioned, the most important thing ( IMO ) about affinity is the photo stacking tool
far better than PS.

ust need some way of getting bees and butterflies to stay still for the time it takes me to get all the photos taken
When you have that cracked let me know :D

Is in-camera focus stacking available on any of the Canons? It's something I've used quite often on an Olympus OM-D E-M1ii and it works well for hand-held shots of insects if you can catch them during a quiet moment!

Not as far as I am aware, most if not all just have the focus bracketing to a greater or lesser extent, but you still need software to "stack"

Only the newest, the M6 mk2 has focus stacking so far. Hopefully it will be included as standard on future models, but with Canon you can't take it for granted :)

I like Canon and have been using they products for years.
I've reached a point where I have far too much invested in Canon to switch,
and TBH to damned old to try a learn a new one.

Having said that they aren't exactly innovators. But this might, just might, be the turning point.
Besides a few years ago, who'd have thought that you would need a cooling fan on a camera,
What a great idea Eh :D

Ditto :)
Call me a bit weird, but I still really enjoy using the original EOS-M despite it's shortcomings and will probably continue to do so until it breaks.
Having said that the M100 has stolen the EF-M 22mm and has become the "Grab n Go" choice most of the time.

but I still really enjoy using the original EOS-M
I have to admit that I was quite tempted by the EOS R and very nearly hit the buy it now button,
but after looking into it a lot further I'm sticking to the M50 & 100 IS L for Macro
and 7DII for everything else. Its a nice combo IMO (y)

Don't you just hate it when they do that?

LOL, yes it's a real problem deciding which camera to attach my favourite lens to ;)

Yes I keep looking at the R's too and getting tempted, but then put my sensible hat on and manage to resist (so far).
Sometimes the M50 is too much camera for me, which is why I enjoy the M100 so much.
I guess there is a bit of nostalgia here as it reminds me of the days of the wonderful Olympus Trip back in the year dot, probably my favourite camera of all time. With hindsight not the most versatile piece of kit, but a joy to use all the same and the M's with the 22mm lens bring back that feeling.
My wallet thanks me for not specialising in wildlife or macro, that could lead to all sorts expensive temptations :(

I don't like using live view TBH. I need a view finder. (y)

 I didn't even think of that, I switch between the two so easily, I forget all about it and don' t even notice the difference.
Seems weird when I think about it, but think it might be to do with the lenses. I only tend to use a viewfinder with larger or longer lenses and as I tend more toward wider angles, that could explain it?

Getting there slowly with my M50 and 100mm macro lens
Bee's in flight, are most certainly not that easy (y)

I ran it through de-noise and it will tidy up to bring out a little more detail.
But you have "No edit" ticked I won't post it
:)

Just been trialling the latest Topaz AI denoise on it so have another version of it which brings out a little more detail. Just changed the edit setting1514denoised.jpg
