Anyone got any thoughts on the Canon EOS M being released 1st November. Was thinking about it as a 2nd body to replace 20D, to use as a travel camera and also with EF adapter take some of my EF lenses when required. Current lenses seem to be a 18-55mm and 22mm pancake lens, I assume more will be in the pipeline

I was thinking of doing something similar but I've just swapped a 60D, which was my backup body, for a 7D and I'm very happy with my set up now. I think the Eos M has a great set of specs on paper and if it performs as well as it should it would be an ideal backup/travel camera. I do think it's a bit overpriced though, compared to the other makes of similar sized and spec bodies. Personally I think that the Panasonic CSC's take some beating, but the Eos M has the advantage of using existing EF lenses with the adapter.
 
love this idea, would have one in a snap (no pun intended) but £800 ...my 7D cost that much
plus 200quid for the adaptor?
will stick with my lx5 for now thanks (unless I win the lottery!)
 
IMVHO this camera only makes sense to existing Canon DSLR owners with existing lenses. For anyone else I think that Sony, Panasonic and Olympus offer a much better blend of image quality, usability and size/performance package.

Personally although I am a Canon DSLR and bag full of lenses owner I wont consider this camera as the lack of a viewfinder of any sort and the relatively large camera and lens package are both killers on their own and then there's the relatively cumbersome performance. Shame really.
 
EOS M too expensive.

14mm 2.5 - £130
20mm 1.7 - £230
45mm 1.8 - £230

£200-300 can get a reasonable m4/3 body

If EOS M have lots of EF M mount lenses at reasonable price, also if EOS M and adapter is around £400-£500 then it may attract more interest.

Practically, although the size and spec is impressive for a travel camera, no view finder, expensive (although give it a few months and prices will start to come down, maybe), I think I could get a decent 2nd hand body to replace my broken 20D (shutter), although as to want, I'm undecided. So at the moment the jury's still out on the EOS M
 
Did you know this is out now??? Ive had a go with one yesterday and though it was a nice little camera but lacking several things and for the price it not worth it...

Oly OMD is worth the extra as it got EVF and weather sealed etc
 
i checked it out today at jessops.

Nice bit of kit, well built, the focusing seemed pretty quick, but of course i tried it in bright well lit conditions,
The system should only get better as canon comes out with more dedicated lenses, I really don't see a point of sticking the EF lenses on such a small body.

I thought the whole point of having a smaller DSLR style camera was size and weight

Oh, also came across the new Fuji XF1- such a pretty little thing, Canon S100 has some serious competition

how about 40D (or even 450d) which is now very affordable, and takes your glass? The M is a bit expensive being a ripped apart 650D, and it's not a Leica :nuts:
