Yes
There is a gentleman , I think, on this forum that everyone seems to trust when it comes to information surrounding canon equipment, lens' in particular. I forget who they are, and need some advice.

Sorry for being so vague.

There's probably a few but Canon Bob is the first that springs to my mind.

Just post in TALK EQUIPMENT and ask what you need to know.. I am sure theres plenty of trustworthy sorts that will reply :)

Not seen Bob post for a while actually?

He was last active yesterday, but aye I've not seen him post for a while neither.

there is a lot of knowledge on this board, just ask away.

Yeah, it was just to do with a lens. I'm interested in opinions on the 28-70L with respect to things to look out for or any known quality issues. I've made an offer for one on sale in this forum and just wanted a second opinion. I was about to buy the 24-70L but this seems like an equal alternative.

Thanks for the link. I've done a bit of research already on the internet and read through several threads, including that link and another one on that website. I've also seen some pretty amazing example shots on Flickr. I think I have my mind made up already!

I used a 28-70 f2.8 before i got my 24-70 f2.8 (was on loan to me for about 6 months from a friend), the results i got from it were very good just what you would expect from a canon L lens, I only bought the 24-70 as it came up at the right time at the right price, but i would have been equally pleased witth a 28-70 depends if the extra 4mm is a major factor to you.

The link Kipax posted is probably as good a review as any.

I ahve the 24-70 .. it really is the bees knees :)

4mm isn't an issue for me, I've got the 17-40mm L which I love, but need something more for documentary photography, which is the area I'm trying to get into.

if you love the 17-40 your gonna love the 28-70 f2.8

If its any help I did a swap for a few hours (my 24-70 with a 28-70) and neither of us could see any difference in the image quality. The person who owned the 28-70 did not bother selling it for a 24-70 which had been their intention!

Bob is still around, just.....a little preoccupied at the moment :)
He's still around though

I have a friend with a 28-70 and it is a stunning lens. The other good news is that, even though it is old, Fixation were still able to service it as it shares many components with the 24-70.
