Canon - Extention cable for remote switch... or alternative solution?

Hi

My wifes parents have a fantastic bird feeder et up where there are constant bird visits. I want to take pictures of this the problem is I need a long shutter release remote control cable... Prob at least 5m long! It's because i'd have to sit inside where the birds would not see me but have the camera set up outside. The windows only have a small set of top windows which open, the main part of the window is a pane of glass and i'd get bad reflections shooting through it.

I have an EOS 5d Mk 1 and the RS-80N3 release.

Any thoughts... is there extensions on the market... I googled but found nothing

just seen there is an extension cable but it's £100! OMG for a cable!

Not seen any remote releases either in my price range that would work with the Mk1 5D. And do you not need to be in front of the camera for them to work and I'll be behind it!

Thanks... have you used one? Im always warey of these non canon products?
 
Not sure if it'll be the same on the 5D.

But the Canon software (that came with the 7D), to use camera connected via the USB is brilliant - i'm going to be trying this one, when the birds come feeding in the winter.

mmm... i looked at those home made extensions but i'm not keen... I think i'd rather trawl ebay to try and find a ET-1000N3, that's the canon extension.

Or a wireless release... what do people think of the £15 options on the links above? Can they be used through a window?
 
I got within 2 metres to a bird feeder today , camera was hand held with no remote shutter etc. If you stay still and wait 2 minutes the birds will soon fly back to the feeder.
 
I have something very similar to this and it works fine on my 50D, it works from a fair distance too, never tried it through glass but I see no reason for it not too.

Could I ask a favour... Could you try it through glass? This would then defo be an option worth considering!

I think it's something I would use in the future as well though in a number of situations and something i'd like to add to my kit. The more I think about it a wireless option has to be better.... mmmm

Just wish canon did a reasonably priced option!

Im thinking this one is a good option... I've used this store before and the stuff was OK! I guess you pay peanuts you can get monkeys though?

Ok yes they do work through glass, put the camera 6 feet away from the house stood in the kitchen and it fired.
will not take responsibility mind if you order some and they do not work on your camera and it will not shoot through glass though:eek:

I'm gona look at options today... 7 day shop seem to do some good stuff... a hama one looks kinda pukka...

The more I think about it the more im thinking the wireless is by far the best option.
