Canon Firmware update question

Yes
I do suffer from a seriously poor memory but I'm pretty sure (99.9%) any firmware updates I've required for 1D III, 1d IV and now 1DX in the last few years I've had to input the serial No to complete the download.

After having a trial run I see this has now changed, as has the terms and conditions! The question is, have I been dreaming or was this the case up until recently...............do I need to get my brain checked out by the men in white coats?

When I bought a 5Dii a few weeks ago, instead of using the cd supplied (it was all the way upstairs..!) I downloaded it from Canon.

I was asked for my serial number.

I think your maybe confused with updating DPP and other utilities, Jim.....they require a body s/n but I don't ever recall needing one for firmware and don't see the logic of being asked as it's useless for anyone who doesn't have the camera.

Bob

Edit...just tried to download the 1Dx firmware and it started without any questions.

Ahh, I read it as DPP.. Sorry..!

I've not been asked for my serial number for Firmware for any Canon camera.. (40D, 60D, 7D or 5Dii)

Can't recall needing the serial number when I updated my mk3, although it was a couple of years ago:rolleyes:

I think Bob is correct, I'm getting confused with the DPP software.
