Which would you choose and why?
Canon 18-200 IS
Sigma 18-200 OS
Sigma 18-250 OS
Tamron 18-270 VC

Thinking of getting one of these as a holiday/ travel light lens but cant make my mind up. I know that all are a compromise and can suffer at wide angle and telephoto ends but practically could be very useful. So who's got what and why did you choose it?

Thanks

Andy

Was an article in mag a couple of months ago about super zooms see if I can find it

I used to have the Sigma 18-200 OS and quite liked it. I ended up selling it to fund a 70-300 IS which at the time was what i was after. The 18-200 was an alright walkabout lens, produced quite good pictures, and i thought it was good value for money to be honest.

I also read a review in a mag and the Canon 18-200 was rated well, but I seem to remember they also commented for the same cost you could purchase 2 lenses - seem to think it was the 18-55 & 55-250 IS lenses, which they felt were poss a better option, if you didn't mind carrying 2 lenses - there are compromises to be made with either option

I'll see if I can dig the review out for you

EDIT - think this was in the EOS magazine (which only compares Canon lanses)

March edition of PhotoPlus had a gear test of superzooms.

They gave your list the following scores

Canon 18-200 IS 88%
Sigma 18-200 OS 80% - also best value on test
Sigma 18-250 OS NA
Tamron 18-270 VC 95% - also best on test

Some others they tested

Canon 28-200 USM 73%
Sigma 18-125 OS HSM 86%
Sigma 28-300 Macro 70%
Tamron 18-250 Di ll Macro 85%
Tamron 28-300 XR Di VC Macro 92%

They rated the 18-200 IS Canon lens over the 18-200 OS Sigma lens because it was lacking in certain areas. The new Tamron 18-270 VC was perfect choice for crop sensor cameras with superb optical quality and highly efeective IS.

Hope this helps

Thanks. Does anyone know of a review of the sigma 18-250 as it has HSM which is unique to this group of lenses?
