Yes
looking to get a flash for my canon EOS1000D.

Got about £80 to spend.

What would you guys recommend?
( prefer to go second hand)

you could look out for a second hand 430ex so you use the built in features of the camera (ETTL) but you would be looking at around £100

Hi, if your looking to use it on Camera look at the Jessops 300 or the 360, I have just ordered a 360 as a second flash for my 1000D to go with my 430exII

I would have to say the moneys a bit tight you have to look in the S/H market
I see Mifsuds got a 540EZ Speedlite Mint- £99

I think you will only be able to use this gun in 'manual' as it does'nt support 'ETTL'

I agree with 'goslayer' in getting a used 430ex.

using the flash in ETTL mode so the flash meters the light for you.

never used a flash before - so i take it this would then help me get a better picture, by telling what setting to use for iso/AP/Shutter speed etc?

no, you set the the speed etc, the flash sets the power to match. you need to do a few changes in the camera settings first, but if youv'e not used one before you will love the results.

cheers - will keep my eye out for one then :)

well worth the extra:)

This may sound stupid, but do flashes have a certain life expectancy? I take it the flash bulb is not something that has a finite life?

Nissin Di622 will come in at budget and gets great reviews for it's price point.
